After months of research by MBI, a low-power FM station for Wilmer, a  rural community on the Mississippi border west of Mobile is one step closer to reality.  In a meeting Oct. 8, FBC deacons discussed a proposal to move ahead in the FCC license application process.  A formal vote by the deacons is expected to be made in November.

The proposal has been a dream of member John Holland ever since he started working with Missionary Broadcasting to launch missionary radio stations in Mexico and Guatemala. A broadcast engineering and consulting firm in Miami, Radio Data Systems performed the frequency search engineering and will file the church’s application before the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC.

If approved by the FCC, the station will become the third Baptist church in Alabama to operate an LPFM station.  The others are in Hamilton and Madison, a suburb of Huntsville.
